What is a Watershed?
Watersheds are those land areas that catch precipitation as it flows across or under on its way to marshes, streams, rivers, lakes or groundwater. They are natural systems that link the land and water resources to the living organisms, including people, within its boundaries. How we live on the land affects the quantity, health, and wealth of the resources within the watershed.
The Brokenstraw Watershed is located in eastern Erie County, northwestern Warren County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and southern Chautauqua County in New York State. It encompasses 313 square miles and is a substantial tributary of the northern portion of the Allegheny River. The Brokenstraw Creek flows into the Allegheny River at Irvine depositing an average of 595 cubic feet of water per second. This watershed supplies water to the city of Corry.
